Gilbert, per the documents, claims she has been separated from Perry for five years and four months, with their breakup date listed as “August 13, 2019.”

She seemingly implied her willingness to be done with her ex-spouse as quickly as possible by not dragging out their divorce proceedings.

Instead of filing for full custody of their child, Rhodes Emilio Gilbert Lydon Perry, the entertainer, filed for joint legal and physical custody. She also didn’t argue for spousal support, asking the court to terminate the former couple’s rights to alimony.

Gilbert did not request Perry to pay her attorney fees or the costs incurred in their divorce proceedings. However, the splitting of their assets may be tricky as the actress noted she is “unaware of the exact identification” of their separate and community properties.

Although she is uncertain of what the former spouses own, she asked for the right to amend her petition once she had the necessary information. Gilbert’s move to dissolve her marriage comes three years after the pair seemingly settled their divorce.

As previously reported by The Blast, Gilbert and Perry submitted their settlement terms in 2021. Before their separation could be officially recognized, a judge must sign off on their divorce agreement, which wasn’t revealed to the public.

Gilbert is well-known for keeping her private life low-key, so it was speculated that the pair had a prenup that would decide how their assets would be divided. In December 2019, the former spouses filed to end their marriage after nearly six years.

Surprisingly, the duo’s divorce came shortly after Gilbert reportedly left “The Talk” to focus on her family. Apart from her son with Perry, the TV personality shares two children with the writer, Ali Adler.

Gilbert and Perry’s divorce shocked fans for several reasons, especially since the pair appeared to be a united front barely a week before the divorce filing.

They were spotted on a family lunch date with their blended brood, looking like the epitome of happiness. At the time, a source claimed the duo would remain on good terms regardless of their divorce, saying:

“They were married for five years, and they share their son Rhodes. They don’t hate each other and are still communicating.”

The insider, per Closer Weekly, noted the former spouses’ primary concern was their son, adding, “Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t work out, but they still have to co-parent Rhodes, and there are no plans to avoid each other.”

Gilbert’s two teenage children — Levi and Sawyer — reportedly regarded her estranged wife as their stepmother and had no issues with her. The source stressed that all three kids got along, and that wouldn’t change with their parents’ separation.

“Sara and Linda are committed to making sure Rhodes, who’s five, stays close to his older siblings,” the insider claimed. The former couple first met in 2011, with Perry once claiming that they “instantly connected.”

Gilbert echoed similar sentiments in her recollection of her romantic proposal on an episode of “The Talk.” She noted that she inscribed the big question on t-shirts and placed them in Perry’s backpack.

“She goes to her backpack, and she pulls out these T-shirts and the first T-shirt says ‘will’ and then puts on another T-shirt and it says, ‘you,’ then ‘marry,’ ‘me,'” Gilbert recalled. “It was the most amazing proposal ever.”

Gilbert and Perry tied the knot in an intimate ceremony, surrounded by their loved ones. She recalled the event on her CBS daytime talk show, telling viewers:

“We decided that we wanted to be together and enjoy people’s company because I think people miss that part of their wedding. We wanted to bring everybody with us down the hill and have this communal feeling.”

“It feels more different than you expect. You feel like you’re part of this institution, and it’s official, and, oh, I better not mess this up,” Gilbert continued, noting the experience made her feel safe and committed.

“It’s not about can I deal with this or not deal with it. It becomes, how will we deal with our relationship together,” the TV personality concluded. She and Perry welcomed their son in 2015 and released the children’s album, “Deer Sounds,” that same year.
