Prime Video has ordered a new Jeopardy! spinoff called Pop Culture Jeopardy!
The new culture and entertainment-focused Jeopardy! spinoff marks the first time the series has been created for a streaming service. Per Deadline, Pop Culture Jeopardy! is a “new twist” on the original quiz show, with categories ranging from popular films, music genres, sports trivia, Broadway shows, and everything in between. Unlike the original series, contestants will compete in teams of three in a “tournament-style” event.
Pop Culture Jeopardy! will arrive courtesy of Sony Pictures Television’s Game Show Division. In a statement, Suzanne Prete — President of the Game Show Division at Sony — previewed the new series, saying, “Pop Culture Jeopardy! is going to be a nail biter for game show enthusiasts who can expect to see teams competing at the highest level of Jeopardy! combined with a fresh twist of pop culture Olympics for the mind…it’s going to be a must-watch for long-time viewers and new fans alike.”
Amazon MGM Studios’ Lauren Anderson echoed this claim: “With a team-based approach and pop-culture focus, our global Prime Video customers will exclusively experience this innovative spin on Jeopardy! while testing their knowledge on topics that both define and transcend generations.”
Jeopardy! has offered several spinoffs over the years, including the children’s Jeopardy! adaptation Jep!, category-specific offshoots like the short-lived Rock & Roll Jeopardy! and Sports Jeopardy!, the star-studded Celebrity Jeopardy!, and the most recent spin-off, Jeopardy Masters! Producers have yet to announce who’ll be hosting the new Jeopardy! spinoff, but the original series and Jeopardy Masters! continue to be led by Ken Jennings.
