Like many women, Shelby had been using the app to make a bit of extra money.

Desperate to purge her wardrobe before immigrating to Western Australia, the influencer decided to start selling on Vinted and claims to have made £200 in just a month.

While most of us struggle to sell one or two items, the thrifty mum revealed that she’d quickly learnt how to make sales on the app as she prepared to leave the UK.

With the deadline fast approaching, the content creator even shared how she’d made the impressive sum in a now-viral video on TikTok.

Rather than spending ages taking photos of pre-loved clothes, the influencer revealed that she will only use the camera in the Vinted app and even claimed it help her save time.

“Personally, when I’m adding an item I do it all within the app,” she explained, adding: “I even take photos of the items in the app as I go along.”

Not only did this help her get the perfect photo, she added: “I find it much quicker than flicking through photos and back.”

If you are still struggling to get the perfect shot though, the influencer has some sage advice for would be sellers.

“Your photos need to be clear and against a bright background,” She told her followers, suggesting that they also take photos of any marks to ensure that people won’t complain later.

According to the mum-of-one, tricks like this have resulted in her clothes flying off the app – much to her surprise.

She even admitted that been totally unprepared by how many items would sell after listing them the night before.

Unsurprisingly, Shelby advised her followers to get organised and buy parcel bags from the local pound shop – rather than using makeshift packaging.

She’d even invested in an expensive thermal label printer, with the Vinted seller saying it was worth the money as she was able to quickly make labels for the countless items she’d listed on the app.

The super seller also suggested amending your settings in Vinted after realising that she was making multiple trips per day to deliver items.

Her TikTok video even showed how easy it was to toggle off certain couriers with the Vinted expert relying on Evri for most of her deliveries.

For anyone still struggling to make their first sale, Shelby also suggested using as many keywords as possible in your listing.

Though this might seem obvious, how you describe your listing can affect how it appears in search and the easier it is to find – the quicker you will make a sale.

New Vinted rules to be aware of

IF you fancy clearing out your wardrobe and getting rid of your old stuff on Vinted, you’ll need to consider the new rules that recently came into play.

If people are selling personal items for less than they paid new (which is generally the case for second-hand sales), there is no impact on tax.

However, since January 1, digital platforms, including eBay, Airbnb, Etsy, Amazon and Vinted, must share seller information with HMRC as part of a crackdown.

You’re unlikely to be affected if you only sell a handful of second-hand items online each year – generally, only business sellers trading for profit might need to pay tax.

A tax-free allowance of £1,000 has been in place since 2017 for business sellers trading for profit – the only time that an individual personal item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is a profit from the sale.

However, firms now have to pass on your data to HMRC if you sell 30 or more items a year or earn over £1,700.

It is part of a wider tax crackdown to help ensure that those who boost their income via side hustles pay up what they owe.

While your data won’t be shared with HMRC if you earn between £1,000 and £1,700, you’ll still need to pay tax as normal.
