Today, May 7, Mondo Cozmo has exclusively shared its latest musical entry with Relix, revealing a new single, “Angels,” and its adjoining music video. Considered the latest chapter in an enigmatic journey that has delivered the critically acclaimed LP Plastic Soul and standout “Shine,” “Angels” presents as a wall of sound rocker harnessed to triumphant lyrics that note the passing of time.

“Angels” firmly establishes its sonic identity in the indie-rock realm, with a seismic string arrangement and distinctive vocals. “These statues of youth now covered in sand, offended walls of brazen land,” Cozmo projects. The music video enhances this colossal sonic presentation, featuring the band performing on a rooftop overlooking the city. The song’s message is projected to those below, a moment of clarity and contemplation about the consistent tick of the universe.

Delving into the inspiration behind “Angels,” Cozmo told Relix, “We’ve been covering The Verve’s ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ for years. I wanted our own mid-tempo song with the strings leading the charge. The idea was to strip the instrumentation back and shoot for a U2 ‘Live at Red Rocks’ feel. Lyrically, the song references ‘time’ – ‘These statues of youth, now covered in sand’ – This will all go away someday and I should probably take the dog to the park.”

Performing under the alias Mondo Cozmo, Josh Ostrander commenced his early musical career in bands such as Laguardia and Eastern Conference Champions, the latter gaining notoriety in association with the Twilight soundtrack. With a taste of success, Ostrander focused on solo ventures following the dissolution of his aforementioned band, co-opting a choice moniker and focusing on the potential of the project.

Cozmo continues to forge his journey on his own terms after brazenly cutting ties with his manager of 15 years and, in turn, using the new experience as a stimulus to enter a world of acclaimed producers and sound engineers. Today’s single debut doubles as an opportunity for fans to sample the artist’s developed sound, which will continue to reveal itself in time.
