Shakira Responds to Ex’s Xenophobic Comment About Singer and Her Fans

Shakira has a few words for her ex after he made negative comments about her heritage and disparaged her fans in the process.

In a recent interview Gerard Piqué spoke down on the singer. “I am very disappointed with what society is. So my ex is Latin American…you don’t know what I’ve gotten on social media from her fans. These people have no lives,” the Spain native said.

The “Hips Don’t Lie” vocalist took to Twitter to address his xenophobic sentiment, writing, “Orgullosa de ser Latinoamericana,” translating to “proud to be Latin American” in English. The tweet featured various Latin country flag emojis.

Over the past few months, social media has witnessed Shakira and Piqué’s rocky split after being together for 11 years. They share two sons, Sasha, 8, and Milan Piqué Mebarak, 10.

This latest news comes after the 46-year-old announced her big move following her breakup via InstagramPeople reported the star wants to start a “new chapter” and provide “stability” for her sons in Miami.

“I settled in Barcelona to give my children stability, the same we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends, and the sea,” she captioned the post. “Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness.”

She continued, “Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside me so many waves there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is certainly longer than love. Thank you to my Spanish audience who have always wrapped me in their love and loyalty. For you just a see you later and as my father said so many times, see you around the curves!”

Shakira lived in Barcelona with the star football player for eight years. A source told People in November that she was planning to move to Miami to be near her family.
