Everyone is looking forward to the Oscars 2024 ceremony. In a few days, we will know which movie, actor, actress or director has won the Academy Award for their incredible work in cinema. However, many of them are also excited to see if Robert Downey Jr will finally win his first Oscar award. Yes, are you surprised to know that he has never won one? Welcome to the club!

To the uninitiated, Robert Downey Jr is nominated in the category Best Supporting Actor (Male) for his performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. He played Lewis Strauss in the 2023 biographical drama. We can’t wait to witness his winning moment and hear his speech. He always makes sure to add some humour to his speeches.

But what if we tell you that the Avengers: Endgame actor had previously graced the Academy Award stage in 2006? He didn’t win an award but went up on the stage to present an award. RDJ and Naomi Watts announced winners in the Best VFX category, and it has a Johnny Depp connection.

The award for the Best VFX that year went to Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Robert gave a witty speech before handing over the award to the winners. He even joked about his 90s activities that put him in a bad limelight back then.

Robert said, “Visual effects enable us to see aliens and experience other universes move in slow motion or watch spiders climbing high above the city landscape. For me, it’s just a typical weeknight in the mid-90s.”. RDJ always proves how comfortable he is with making fun of himself.
