The news was announced by his family on Wednesday, who confirmed Vignon has died on March 22 in Beverley Hills.

The US actor was best known for voicing one of the Merry Men in Shrek and narrating the romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer.

Vignon’s early work began in France in the 1950s, where he performed as part of a cabaret in Paris ans starred in a number of French films.

He eventually headed to New York, where he opened for stand-up comedian Woody Allen in 1963.

Vignon would then go on to enjoy a successful eight-decade long career in acting in the United States.

Among his notable acting credits was the role of Andre in Gilmore Girls and Monsieur Lazare in Days of Our Lives.

Alongside his acting work, however, Vignon was also a successful singer.

After signing with Columbia Records, he released his first album in the US, Because I Love You, in 1964.

In a 1994, the Los Angeles Times wrote a profile on Vignon, claiming he’d “fulfilled the American image of the romantic, singing Frenchman”

But unlike other renowned Frennchman, Vignon was able to “sing fast and passionate or gentle and slow.”

Vignon is survived by his long-term partner, Suzie Summers, and his daughter, Marguerite Vignon Gaul.

He also has a second daughter, Lucy Brank, from his first marriage to the late actress Brigid Bazlen.

Vignon was a grandfather to her children, Leah and Hannah.
