Posting on social media, Ruby clapped back to haters who criticised her lifestyle, and was keen to set the record straight on her traditional way of living.

In one video, Ruby shared how she and her husband “split the bills”.

She explained that “he works and pays for everything” whilst she “looks pretty and cooks.”

In a follow-up clip, Ruby responded to a comment that read: “Sounds like you are stuck in the 1950s, women have moved on since then”.

To this, the proud housewife addressed the comment and explained: “I have got to say, my husband comes home from work and he doesn’t need to lift a finger, he doesn’t so much as get socks out for himself, because I do it all for him.”

Ruby revealed that because she is married, she wants to do everything at home for her man, as she added: “He goes to work, and he provides everything for me, so why would I not do what I can for him?

“I understand that everybody comes from different backgrounds and have been brought up differently, but this is the way that we’ve been brought up, and some families need the two incomes to make a living nowadays, but fortunately enough, I’m in a position where I don’t need to deal with that.”

Ruby then addressed people’s fears about the possibility of her husband ever leaving her, as she explained: “My family is more than capable of looking after me, money is not a problem when it comes to my family – my dad’s always looked after me, and so has my mum.

“It’s never been an issue. I’ve always had what I wanted, when I wanted it, and how I wanted it, so I’m never, ever gonna have to worry about that. With or without him, I will always be financially stable.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @rubybarney19, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed a whopping 276,500 views.

BIG DIVIDE

But social media users were divided by Ruby’s clip – whilst some praised her ‘traditional values’, not everyone was as kind.

I’d live that lifestyle in a heartbeat

One person said: “Nothing wrong with traditional values, each to their own.”

Another added: “I’m not a traveller but I’d live that lifestyle in a heartbeat.”

A third commented: “If it works for you both and you’re happy then nobody has a right to criticise your lifestyle.”

What is a trad wife?

A trad wife (short for traditional wife) is a woman who chooses to take on an ultra traditional role in marriage, meaning she makes dinner and looks pretty whilst her husband goes to work.

The trend takes inspiration from the idea of a 1950s housewife.

Many ‘trad wives’ choose to dress in the style of clothing popular in this period (think floral dresses and frumpy cardigans).

Additionally, the values considered important to trad wives are similar to strict Christian values.

Trad wives believed they were not forced into this way of life, and that it was their purpose to be homemakers.

The trend, which has garnered attention on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, glamorises a time gone by with little acknowledgement of the economic challenges facing families and mothers today.

However, not everyone was as complimentary on Ruby’s lifestyle.

One user claimed: “Having him not doing anything at home isn’t a flex. You’re literally living your life to serve a man.”

All fun and games until he cheats

In response, Ruby replied: “And I’ll always do it.”

Another wrote: “Spoilt brat springs to mind.”

Whilst someone else wrote: “All fun and games until he cheats and you can’t afford to leave him.”
