Foo Fighters and Jack Black Cover AC/DC's "Big Balls"

Foo Fighters’ 2024 tour dates have begun, and at the opening show in Auckland, New Zealand, the legendary rock band continued their trend of performing cover songs live, this time with special guest Jack Black, who joined the band for a rendition of AC/DC’s “Big Balls.”

Leaning into the song’s humor, Black brought the choruses of “Big Balls” to life with help from Foo Fighters’ drum tech, Fiona Jeans, who handled the verses. Singing, dancing, and miming holding gigantic balls, the two put on quite a show — and, of course, having one of the world’s finest rock outfits provide the backing track added some oomph as well.

Foo Fighters first started covering “Big Balls” in 2023, performing the 1976 AC/DC cut at each of their Australian dates last year. The performance with Black marked the sixth time they’ve played it live.

Black, meanwhile, is in New Zealand to shoot a new film based on Minecraft. His collaboration with Foo Fighters stretches back to Tenacious D’s 2001 self-titled debut album, which Dave Grohl drummed on. Then, in 2006, Grohl appeared as Satan in Tenacious D’s cult-favorite film, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. In 2022, Black and Grohl both participated in a cover of “Summer Breeze” onstage with Beck.

Up next for Foo Fighters, the band is booked for a tour this summer. After finishing up their New Zealand dates, they’ll take a few months and then hit the road again in June, beginning with a two-show run in Manchester, England. In July, they’ll head stateside for a North American run.
