Who is James Somerton?

James Somerton is a popular web personality, mostly known for his long-form content on YouTube.

On his now-deleted channel, James often posted videos that were centered around queer film theory and LGBT literature.

On the abovementioned platform, his channel accumulated 330,000 subscribers.

He also has a profile on Patreon but has remained inactive since December 2023.

Why did James apologize?

On December 2, 2023, Harry Brewis posted a video that addressed plagiarism in the YouTube community.

Also known as Hbomberguy, Harry’s video mentioned James several times as he accused the latter of stealing ideas from other content creators.

On December 21 of the same year, James responded to the criticism.

In a now-deleted video, he told his subscribers: “I’m really, really sorry.

“For the stuff in the videos, the not crediting people for a lot of videos.

“I did the opening titles thing and I tried to put, ‘This is based on this person’s research or this person’s book,’ but I know now that wasn’t enough.

“That wasn’t okay. There were a lot of times that stuff just got put in, and there was no attempt at crediting anybody.”

James added: “I want to apologize for the misinformation and outright lies that ended up in the videos.

“I can honestly say that I never intended for any of that stuff to be in the videos. In most cases, I didn’t write.”

On the same day James uploaded his response, he deleted the video.

He further explained to his subscribers: “Earlier tonight I uploaded a video apologizing for what I’ve done but it’s become clear, after hearing from several people, that I am not in a healthy frame of mind to be posting anything online.

“I only returned home from the hospital yesterday so I should have never filmed it.

“I have deleted the video, but I’m sure it has been downloaded and will be shared by others online.

“I promise to apologize properly and in detail when I’m more mentally stable. Until then please know that I AM sorry.”
