We Are Family LIVE — Anthony Anderson reveals 'superstar legend' who leaves game show audience in tears tonight

Anthony Anderson starred on Law & Order

Law & Order fans might recognize We Are Family’s host as Detective Kevin Bernard after he joined the hit drama series in 2008.

He reprised his role briefly in 2022 following the series’ revival, but he only signed up for one season.

Anthony announced his departure from the franchise later that year in May.

Anderson told ET: “I wanted to go off and create more shows like Black-ish, create things that I have ownership in, and do something a little bit different.”

Host is recently divorced

Anthony Anderson married his ex-wife, Alvina, in September 1999 and they share two children – Kyra, born 1996, and Nathan, born 2000.

The mom-of-two filed for divorce in September 2015 after the pair had been separated since April the previous year.

However, she withdrew her petition after they reconciled in January 2017.

The pair separated again in February of 2022 and finalized their divorce in September 2023.

What to know about Anthony Anderson

We Are Family’s host Anthony Anderson is a renowned actor and comedian from Compton, California.

As the son of actress and movie extra Doris Hancox, who co-hosts the game show, he grew up on film sets in Los Angeles before he stepped in front of the camera himself.

He appeared in his first TV commercial at the age of five and he later attended LA’s High School for the Performing Arts.

Game show’s format explained

We Are Family’s audience of 100 contestants gets the chance to guess which celebrity a non-famous contestant is related to while they perform.

While the contestant performs, their famous relative is hidden in the back until the final performance of three, where they join their family member for a duet.

Contestants can win up to $150,000 if they correctly guess the first two celebrities and get chosen to be the star player for the final round.
