Fans are also shocked at Cameron Diaz’s age too
THE Holiday is one of the most popular films to watch at Christmas, having hit the big screen 17 years ago.
But fans are only just realising just how young Kate Winslet was when she landed the role of unlucky-in-love Iris.
Kate stars in the festive flick alongside fellow Brit star Jude Law, who plays her brother Graham, and Cameron Diaz and Jack Black.
Her character lives in a beautiful cottage in Surrey, she drives a flash Mini Cooper and has a job as a society column editor on national newspaper.
Iris is also smitten with cheating love interest Jasper, who has strung her along for years.
But fans have started to realise just how young Kate was when she landed the role. The star was just 31.
Sharing her shock on X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan of The Holiday posted: “One of my new hobbies lately is googling how old actors were when they filmed my favourite movies.
“Like, Kate Winslet was 31 when she filmed The Holiday. Those man problems really overshadowed how much her character had her s*** together at that age.”
Another added: “Just found out Kate Winslet is only 31 in The Holiday so currently digging my grave.”
And someone else wrote: “Ever since I found out that Kate Winslet was 31 in the holiday i’ve been living life like a shell of a human. i fear my world will never be the same.”
Kate’s character decides to sign up to a house swap website in The Holiday, before agreeing to swap her home – and life – with movie director Amanda Woods.
Amanda, played by Cameron Diaz, leaves her mega Hollywood mansion and cheating boyfriend behind to fly to England and consequently she falls in love with Graham.
But given her huge house and successful career, fans of the movie are equally shocked by Cameron’s young age too. She was 34 when cast as Amanda.
“Definitely wasn’t prepared to learn that Kate Winslet was 31 and Cameron Diaz was 34 in 2006 classic The Holiday,” someone else chimed in online.
Another concluded: “Kate Winslet was only 31 and Jude Law and Cameron Diaz were only 34 in The Holiday!!!
“I’m now basically closer in age to the old guy than the other characters!!!!”
The devastated star was referring to 90-year-old screenwriter Arthur Abbott (the late Eli Wallach), who Kate takes under her wing when she arrives in LA.
Eli passed away eight years after the release of The Holiday, aged 98.
Last year, there were rumours of a sequel being in the pipework for the smash hit Christmas film.
It had been claimed a second instalment of The Holiday would star the original cast.
However, writer-director Nancy Meyers was quick to deny it, writing on Instagram: “So many DM’s about this – sorry but it’s not true.”
