Things are unfortunately not going as planned for the imminent British Royals’ Coronation ceremony beginning on May 6 and spanning about three days.
As preparations are being made, roughly five invited singers have canceled, including the Spice Girls, whose reunion was highly anticipated, thereby dashing the hopes of the soon-to-be-crowned King Charles III.
Spice Girls Will Be A No Show At King Charles’ Coronation Due To Hectic Schedules
The Coronation of King Charles and the Queen Consort, Camilla, is coming up in a few months, but the event’s organizers are having a setback in the music department as three more stars have declined the invitation.
The Spice Girls, Elton John, and Harry Styles have all canceled due to their “crazy-busy schedules” mere weeks after Ed Sheeran, Adele, and Robbie Williams turned down the invitations.
As The Sun recently revealed, the female band will not make it considering the rehearsal time clashes with the “chock-full calendar of Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham.” Nevertheless, Olly Murs may save the day as he has been lined up to perform and plans to make time between his tour dates for the King.
Alongside Murs, Gary Barlow from Take That, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald will headline the Coronation concert, while Kylie and Dannii Minogue, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the iconic Lionel Richie will be featured.
Per a source, “Organizers are working against the clock to pull together an exciting lineup but have hit a series of challenges.”
“Elton John was top of Charles’ list, but due to his European tour, which sees him performing in Germany the Friday before then again soon after the Windsor concert, he isn’t able to make the dash to the UK work.”
The insider also mentioned that Styles is otherwise engaged with touring and cannot get his major band members together as they will be on “much-needed downtime.”
Regarding Murs’ feature, the ceremony’s organizers are optimistic about his acceptance as they know he will be a “great addition” given his outstanding “stage presence and a huge fanbase.” Meanwhile, fans will be abreast of every activity on the memorable day through the live broadcast on the BBC.
Despite the refusals from every corner, Jonathan Shalit OBE, an industry pro, believes artists should be overly eager to be a part of the ceremony as it “will be one of the greatest honours of most of the acts’ lives.” He said, “It’s going to be one of the most brilliant national events ever. It should be an amazing opportunity to unite the nation.”
Fans are no doubt disappointed to hear of The Spice Girls bailing after having high hopes for weeks following the announcement of the women’s possible reunion at the crowning event. The Blast reported late last month that after the ceremony’s planners included the British girl group in the lineup, they seriously considered performing.
The show would have marked their first performance together since the 2012 Olympic closing ceremony when Beckham left the band. According to a source, Royal organizers were “super keen” to secure the female performers as Mel B and Mel C worked towards implementing the plans by convincing their bandmates.
Mel C once claimed that the group was unhappy about missing the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert last June, given their responsibilities and commitments. While in another interview, Mel B hinted that the women would take the stage at the upcoming event, saying, “I’m probably going to get told off. It is a project that we’re very excited about. It will be all five of us.”
Adele And Ed Sheeran Turn Down Invitation To Perform At The King’s Coronation For Different Reasons
It is not only the Spice Girls that have greatly disappointed the monarch of the United Kingdom. As previously reported, King Charles included Adele and Ed Sheeran at the top of the list of people he would like to perform at his coronation, but they both declined.
Sheeran explained that he would be performing in Texas the day before the significant occasion, making it difficult to fly down to his homeland for another show. In contrast, Adele gave no explanations and was reported not to have any concert booked after March 25, with no conflicting performance planned for May 7.
Given the update, a Royal insider noted that both rejections were a “shame” to the Royal family as they are “titans of the showbiz industry” and “quintessentially British.”
