Shannon Sharpe’s pockets are a bit lighter these days due to a series of misfortunes impacting his bank account. The former NFL tight end and current sports media personality was fired by ESPN earlier this year.

That news came days after he settled a $50 million lawsuit with a woman alleging assault over their two-year relationship. Despite the string of negative headlines, Sharpe made light of his situation on his Nightcap Show podcast.

Sharpe was heard joking about his financial woes with co-host Chad Johnson. He demanded that Johnson pay him a debt owed.

Shannon Sharpe needs the money!

The popular sports talk host has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons of late. In April, he was hit with a lawsuit by a former romantic partner.

While his attorney called it a “shake down,” Sharpe settled the case in late July.

Days later, he was fired by ESPN, news that broke just before his brother’s NFL Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

“I’m sorry that I upstaged you in this manner,” he said during a special episode of his Nightcap podcast. “That was never my intent.”

Shannon Sharpe was inducted into the HoF over a decade ago. He knew the magnitude of the moment and felt bad about being a distraction for his brother, Sterling.

Unc joked about his money problems with Chad Johnson.

Micah Parsons was the original topic of discussion. The talking point shifted to Sharpe’s personal situation as the conversation continued on.

“You owe me $5,900,” Sharpe said of an outstanding debt owed to him by Johnson. “We’re coming up on a year. There’s a penalty for being late… I need to get it. You know, pockets [are] light right now Ocho.”

Sharpe made light of what’s been a bad few months. The financial impact, however, will be felt.

For now, his Nightcap podcast is safe though a deal with The Volume is reportedly set to expire at the end of August.
