Famed sports writer and pop culture media magnate Bill Simmons may have stepped on a rake by calling out Pablo Torre‘s coverage of Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson, as Torre now appears to be sniffing around Simmons’ past.

Clearly triggered by his beloved former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick getting dragged through the mud for his objectively strange relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, Bill Simmons ripped into Pablo Torre during a recent episode of his The Rewatchables podcast.

Torre has been investigating the relationship between the 73-year-old Belichick and the 24-year-old Hudson and has reported multiple exclusive and eye-opening stories about the pair, such as reporting that Belichick met Hudson when she was just a teenager.

Torre’s reporting has been so consequential, in fact, that it forced the University of North Carolina to put out a statement disputing it.

“Pablo Torre would’ve done a long podcast about (Heaven Can Wait character) Leo Farnsworth trying to practice with the team, and then done a media tour about it afterwards,” Simmons said on an episode of his podcast The Rewatchables.

“I’ve never seen anybody dine on a stupider story for a week and a half while pretending you’re a journalist. What the f— was that? Seriously. ‘Belichick’s dating a girl. Oh, let me do nine shows about it!’ Settle the f— down… You don’t need to do a media tour about a f—— podcast.”

For what it’s worth, Simmons has a 20-year-old daughter whose a soccer player at Emerson. It’s hard not to imagine how he’d feel if she came home with Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid as her boyfriend one day. Wonder if he would “settle the F down” then.

Clearly getting wind of the shots he took, Torre took to Twitter to call Simmons out and ask him for a comment, which has got to feel like the 2025 sports media equivalent of hearing the Jaws theme song.

“Dear @BillSimmons: Since you have such a strong public opinion about my work… I happen to have a few questions for you, specifically. Unless you’re afraid of @pablofindsout and someone just ‘pretending to be a journalist,’ of course. Thanks, Pablo.”

What makes Torre such an effective reporter and a nightmare for those he investigates is that the Harvard graduate has the rigor and diligence of an old-school journalist but the technological and social media nous of a millennial. And because of his blind diehard allegiance to the Patriots and Belichick, Simmons might have talked himself into being the latest to find that out.
