Losing From Missouri

This week, the LSU Gymnastics team, ranked No. 3 nationally, hit the road for their first conference away meet of the season against No. 9 Missouri. Head coach Jay Clark emphasized that the team’s approach for the upcoming week remains consistent with their overall mindset throughout the season.

“The mindset going into this week is the same as it is every week. Our goal is just to continue to improve on our performance every week and maintain a mindset of progress, intensity, and focus,” said Clark. “The most important thing is what happens next. Last Friday was a good confidence booster and our intention is to be that same team as we turn the page and move on to the next meet. Missouri is a good team and we’re excited to get in their environment. We want to be as consistently excellent as we can possibly be, and that’s what we’re going to try and do.”

However, after a week marked by exceptional performances and one of the top scores nationwide, LSU encountered a challenging meet against Missouri.

Jay Clark’s Disappointment Over Loss

Freshman Konnor McClain secured another perfect score of 10 on the balance beam, marking her second flawless performance in the past three weeks, while senior Kiya Johnson showcased resilience by clinching the all-around title. Despite these standout performances, the No. 3 LSU team faced challenges throughout the meet against No. 9 Missouri, ultimately falling short with a score of 197.325-197.225 in Columbia, Missouri.

The defeat brings LSU’s overall record to 4-2, with a 1-1 standing in SEC competition, while Missouri boasts a 5-1 record overall and 2-1 in conference play. Expressing disappointment, LSU coach Jay Clark labeled the performance as “unacceptable,” particularly noting the team’s strong start on bars followed by struggles to land routines throughout the remainder of the competition, as reported by NOLA.
