Nicolas Cage Says He’ll Stop Making Movies To Focus On TV

There aren’t many actors who’ve devoted more of their time to Hollywood over the past decade or so than Nicolas Cage, who has recently hinted he’s ready to leave the movie industry behind. Thankfully, that doesn’t mean he’s stepping away from the game entirely.

Nicolas Cage has more than 100 credits (and a couple of Oscars) under his belt, and a very large chunk of those roles involved the largely forgettable projects he found himself involved in after trying to pay off a sizeable tax bill in the 2010s.

While he’d probably be the first person to admit plenty of those movies left a lot to be desired, the man who’s known for some pretty over-the-top performances managed to stage a bit of a comeback with the help of Pig and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent while carving out a niche for himself in the horror (and horror-adjacent) world with the likes of Mandy, Mom and Dad, Willy’s Wonderland, and Color Out of Space.

Cage has apparently kept the momentum going based on the reviews for Dream Scenario, and as he’s promoted the new movie, he’s hinted he may start to wind down his fairly prolific output as he approaches his 60th birthday.

During a recent interview with Uproxx, he admitted he may only end up doing “three or four more movies,” which is kind of a bummer when you consider the hot streak he’s been on in recent years.

With that said, there is good news. He supplemented that admission by saying he hopes to “switch formats and go into some other way of expressing my acting,” adding “maybe television is the next best step for me.”

Of course, there’s always the chance he ends up changing his mind, and while I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Nic Cage movies, I also think I’d have a hard time resisting a TV show where he has a recurring role.
