According to reports, Carey and Tanaka broke up because they were at different points in their lives, with the singer focused on her career and the dancer looking to start a family.

“He wants to have a family. That’s not where she is at,” a source told Page Six. The source revealed to the news outlet that the age gap difference of 14 years between the former couple played a part in causing the end of their relationship.

Another insider also shared that Tanaka wants to “start having his own life,” one that is seemingly filled with kids of his own.

This is not the first time that Carey and Tanaka have broken up, although their separation feels final this time around. In 2017, the pair reportedly split but quickly reconciled that same year.

The rumor mills about a potential breakup between Carey and Tanaka began spinning mid-November when the famous vocalist began her “Merry Christmas One and All!” tour without her lover.
