Louis, 30, said: “Thank you to everyone that’s listened to the new album so far, it means the world to me. The show last night in New York was incredible.

“Unfortunately on the way back I’ve managed to fall and break my right arm pretty badly. So I’m gutted to say I’ll have to reschedule the in-store signings next week.

“New dates will be announced very soon. Thank you for all your support and sorry to anyone who was coming next week. Louis.”

Fans were quick to share messages of support for the star, with one replying: “Oh brother. Those X rays, sending love and light. Here’s to a speedy recovery.”

Another said: “omg, be careful Louis, we will pray for a swift recovery”

One Direction last performed together almost seven years ago.

And Louis accused bandmates Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan of leaving him in the dark when they took their break by failing to tell him what would happen next.

Louis said: “I suppose it’s only a break if we ever get back together.

“When we had the conversations, we never got any real clarity on what it was. And I can remember going into those meetings and saying, ‘You know, I understand – it’s not what I want – but all I would ask is just put a rough time on how long a break’.

“And there was never really an answer.”

He continued in Music Week: “I definitely came out of the band crossing my fingers, thinking, ‘Oh, maybe it’s only going to be like a year or two’.

“I think that’s probably stopped me from going into my solo career, because I was still just thinking I wanted to be in that band.”
