Larry David Wants Off the Text Chain in New Curb Clip: Watch

If you’ve ever been included on a text chain that you didn’t really want to be a part of, then Larry David just might be the hero you’ve been looking for. That’s right — just like the beloved curmudgeon recently pummeled Elmo because “somebody had to,” he’s taken aim at the phenomenon of the unnecessary text chain in a new clip from Season 12 of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Sitting down with Jimmy Fallon on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show, David explained the context of the preview clip: his character has been put on a text chain for someone he doesn’t know very well who’s in the hospital. When he runs into someone else on the chain, David expresses his desire to not be included, leading to some textbook Curb confrontation.

“Can I be honest with you? I’m overwhelmed by this chain,” David’s character says. “Every two minutes, it’s ‘ding’ — I’m getting a ‘ding,’ I’m getting a ‘ding.’ Too many dings! And what is it? It’s just these ridiculous inspirational sentiments that amount to nothing, they’re all trite. I don’t even know why people bother to write them. And you want me to give it a ‘haha?’ A ‘haha?’”

Not appreciating the fictional David’s disdain, the other character flips him off, prompting David to say “Oh, I’ll give that a ‘haha!’” Watch the clip, as well as David’s chat with Fallon, below.

The new — and final — season of Curb Your Enthusiasm will begin streaming tomorrow, Sunday, February 4th. Be sure to read Consequence’s review of the first episode, where our Senior Entertainment Editor Liz Shannon Miller praises the show’s cathartic sense of humor.
