TikTok star Khaby Lame was ‘voluntarily deported’ from the United States in Las Vegas after overstaying his 30-day visa.
On June 6, social media rumors claimed that TikTok star Khaby Lame had been detained by ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Several accounts posted that Lame was being held at the Henderson Detention Center in Nevada, claiming to have gotten screenshots from ICE’s online locator of detained persons.
It has since been confirmed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson that Lame was detained at Harry Reid airport in Las Vegas on June 6. This was due to “immigration violations” pertaining to him overstaying his visa.
The Senegalese-Italian Influencer had arrived in the United States on April 30 and appeared at the Met Gala on May 5. “Lame was granted voluntary departure June 6 and has since departed the U.S.,” an ICE spokesperson told media outlets Newsweek and Complex.
Khaby Lame posts TikTok after ‘voluntary deportation’
Despite there being claims that Lame’s name appeared on ICE’s online locator of detained persons, that wasn’t the case as of June 7. So, if he had been there previously, it had been wiped.
The TikTok star posted an Instagram Story on June 7 with a backdrop that appeared to be Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California. Though that has since disappeared, given they only stay up for 24 hours.
His TikTok account also posted an advert for Kellogg’s on June 7, with viewers taking to the comments to ask if he had been freed from authorities. However, others noted it was very likely a scheduled post.
Lame, who was named an ambassador for UNICEF in January, regularly visits the United States for different events.
As noted, he was at the Met Gala in May, appeared at the NBA All-Star weekend in February, and has been a regular visitor to Formula 1 races.
There have been protests in the United States as ICE has ramped up detentions of people with valid documentation, threatening many with deportation.
