Ke Huy Quan Joins ‘With Love’ Movie From Universal, 87North – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: While Ke Huy Quan has carefully considered his next career moves following his triumph at the Oscars with Daniels’ A24 smash Everything Everywhere All at Once, not unlike the other winners of 2023, he’s now found his next feature lead in With Love, a Universal action pic from David Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87North (Bullet Train, upcoming The Fall Guy).

Set to direct the film in his theatrical feature debut is Jonathan Eusebio, a longtime 2nd unit director and stunt coordinator whose recent credits include Violent Night and Obi-Wan Kenobi. While plot details are under wraps, Luke Passmore is writing from an original script by Josh Stoddard (Warrior, Kaleidoscope) & Matthew Murray.

Leitch and McCormick will produce through 87North, with Guy Danella overseeing on behalf of the company. Overseeing on Universal’s behalf are Executive Vice President of Production Development, Jay Polidoro, and Director of Production Development, Tony Ducret.

It was earlier this year that Quan won his Supporting Actor Oscar for Everything Everywhere, the action-packed and heartfelt genre-bender that saw him star opposite Michelle Yeoh. Taking the world by storm following its premiere at SXSW, the pic marked a major turning point for the one-time child star, as one of the first projects he pursued following a 20-year hiatus from acting. His role as the lovable Waymond Wang, husband of Yeoh’s immigrant laundromat owner Evelyn — as well as his alter egos from different corners of the metaverse — led him to become the first Asian male to win an individual film acting award from SAG, also scoring Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, Independent Spirit and Gotham Awards, among other accolades.

Since then, Quan’s been seen in the second season of Disney+’s Loki, for which he was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award — stealing scenes in the MCU as the TVA’s quirky-genius repairman, Ouroboros, aka O.B. He also last year reteamed with Yeoh on the Disney+ series American Born Chinese and will be seen coming up in the Russo Brothers’ adaptation of acclaimed graphic novel The Electric State for Netflix.

A 20-year veteran of the industry with two Stunt Ensemble SAG Awards and eight nominations to his name, Eusebio served as both 2nd unit director and stunt coordinator on Uni/87North’s holiday action comedy Violent Night, starring David Harbour, and Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. Other recent credits for the filmmaker include Birds of Prey, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Deadpool 2 and Black Panther, to name just a few.

Quan is repped by UTA and Cohen & Gardner; Eusebio by CAA; Passmore by Grandview; Stoddard by CAA and Writ Large; and Murray by Writ Large.
