Kate Middleton‘s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, seemingly regrets a recent interview he gave without knowledge of his niece’s condition.

The businessman, who previously criticized Meghan Markle in the interview, has now issued an apology following Kate’s shocking cancer diagnosis, however, clearly omitting his jabs at the Dutchess of Sussex.

During a recent conversation with The Times in London, Goldsmith slammed Markle, whom he nicknamed “Laughing Girl,” and her union to Prince Harry, stating:

“Let’s face it, Laughing Girl isn’t going to be around forever, is she? I think she’s fickle. And I think she’s so bad for Harry and our country.”

The 58-year-old’s resentment appeared to have been borne from Markle’s accusations against members of the royal family regarding racist remarks about her son Archie’s skin color before his birth in May 2019.

As far as Goldsmith is concerned, the former “Suits” actress was targeting Kate with her speech. The 58-year-old told The Times that:

“The idea that Laughing Girl says Kate is racist makes me furious. Kate knows her family’s roots and is proud of them. I’m sorry, but Laughing Girl is not good people.”

Elsewhere in the interview, which happened days before Kate shared her cancer diagnosis, Goldsmith suggested that the dynamic among William, Harry, and Kate was once harmonious, but it has since been marred.

“With all that going on — and there is other stuff going on that is not in the public domain — are they at their absolute happiest? No. Their kids bring them a lot of joy, but no,” he stipulated.

In light of his harsh words and his niece’s public announcement about her health challenge, Goldsmith has issued an apology. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, he began:

“This interview and shoot was done over a week ago and went to print before I was aware of the sad news regarding my niece Kate.”

After pointing out his “thoughts and prayers are with Kate and the wider family at this difficult time,” he highlighted his frustrations at the timing of The Times article.

Goldsmith concluded, “I hope this draws a line over the continued speculation and horrible conspiracies. Let’s give Kate, William & the children time and show some love back.”

Despite his good intentions, social media users were quick to showcase their displeasure with Goldsmith, with this person typing:

“Stop talking about them. Just stop. Stop using them to try and make yourself relevant. You aren’t in the know. This is why you aren’t in the know. You keep running your mouth.”

A second X user asserted, “Week, month, or year ago, makes no difference. You shouldn’t have said what you did at any time. I wish you well with your media opportunities, and send hope for strength and peace for your family.”

At the same time, an internet citizen chimed, “I think you need to read the room. A grand total of no one has seen or will see the article. It’s probably best to just stay quiet and dignified.”

Luckily, one Internet personality came to Goldsmith’s defense, writing, “Give the guy a break. He’s just expressing a natural response to pre-empt potential backlash. He’s always spoken out defending his niece against Harkles toxicity, saying mostly stuff we all think.”

Even though their relationship with the Prince and Princess of Wales has been strained over the years, Harry and his wife did not hesitate to reach out to them after learning of Kate’s cancer.

Per The Blast, the parents of two privately reached out to William and Kate Middleton on Friday night.

However, it remains uncertain whether the foursome communicated via video, phone, or text. Regardless, sources have indicated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had “no idea” about Kate’s cancer diagnosis until it became public knowledge.

In a previous statement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle expressed their wishes for Kate’s health and healing, hoping that she and her family could navigate this challenging time “privately and find peace.”

Considering the circumstances, it was no surprise when The Blast reported that the Waleses and their kids will be absent from this year’s Easter Sunday service with the royal family at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Many royal fans had previously hoped to see her at the event, considered a private family occasion rather than a royal obligation. Last year, the couple brought their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — to the service for the first time.

As for her cancer announcement, we detailed that she divulged on Friday that she is in the early stages of “a course of preventive chemotherapy.”
