Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival has shared the initial artist lineup for its 2024 event, set to return to Oak Hill, N.Y.’s idyllic Walsh Farm on July 17-21. For its 24th annual presentation, the festival will draw bluegrass icons like Del McCoury Band, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway and Yonder Mountain String Band to commune with a host of carefully selected Emerging Artists over five summer days. The festival currently boasts 41 total acts on its billing, with further entries to be announced as the annual gathering of bluegrass, newgrass, and roots music approaches.

As always, Dry Branch Fire Squad will host the 2024 Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, as the nearly 50-year-old traditional bluegrass ensemble has since the folk celebration’s 1984 inception as Winterhawk Bluegrass Festival. Del McCoury Band, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Yonder Mountain String Band, The Steeldrivers, Hawktail, The Travelin’ McCourys, The Gibson Brothers and Sister Sadie are billed to lead this year’s festivities; highlights further down the bill include Charlie Parr, SCYTHIAN, Chris Jones & The Nightriders, Brennen Leigh and the seven new voices that comprise the festival’s 2024 Emerging Artists class.

Grammy-nominated all-female string ensemble Della Mae will serve as this year’s artist-in-residence, filling a set previously held by Jerry Douglas in 2022 and 2023 and Billy Strings in 2018 and 2019. Other acts that have performed at the prestigious festival in its two-and-a-half decades include Acoustic Hot Tuna, Greensky Bluegrass, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Steve Earle, Infamous Stringdusters, Bill Monroe, Old Crow Medicine Show and Doc Watson.

Aside from the six stages, from the hallowed High Meadow Stage to the intimate, instruction-oriented Grass Roots Stage, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival offers a vast array of on-site activities to keep the festival’s nearly 20,000 total attendees engaged for all five days. Between music and dance workshops, eclectic vendors, a songwriting lab, yoga sessions, and dependable spur-of-the-moment collaboration between attendees, there’s always another opportunity to connect with nature and community at this celebratory getaway to the heart of the breathtaking Catskill range.
