Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that there’s some wild casting news to report that’s sure to make some waves in the soap world. Multiple Days insiders confirm that Emily O’Brien will be exiting as Gwen Rizczech, but she’ll ultimately swap that role and play a Theresa Donovan recast instead.
Of course, we want to be clear about Jen Lilley’s imminent return. Lilley already filmed a brief stint that’s rapidly approaching, so she’ll be the next Theresa Donovan that fans see.
However, the show films several months in advance, so the news has already leaked about what’s happening down the road.
Emily O’Brien will be the new Theresa, so she’ll apparently shed the British accent and make her debut as a recast.
This isn’t the first time DOOL has pulled something like this since Robert Scott Wilson also did a role swap.
Wilson went from playing Ben Weston to an Alex Kiriakis recast, so O’Brien will be the next cast member who’s able to stick around by playing someone else.
Gwen is one of those characters who constantly gets written into a corner, but she’s somehow managed to stick around anyway – at least until now!
It sounds like Days finally realized Gwen’s exit was necessary, but there’s the potential for plenty of new storylines involving Theresa once O’Brien is playing a recast.
Unless Tate Black (last played by Colin and Kyle Schroeder) ends up in boarding school, he’ll presumably return with Theresa at some point as well.
It’ll be nice for Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) to finally have his son close by instead of all the way out in California.
Regardless, Days is going to keep Emily O’Brien around by having her become a Theresa Donovan recast after she exits the role of Gwen Rizczech.
Jen Lilley will get a little farewell tour beforehand that presumably ties in with Victor Kiriakis’ (John Aniston) demise, but O’Brien will take over for her somewhere down the line.
