Fans of the first season of Netflix’s Beef have something new and juicy to sink their teeth into — the show’s second season is reportedly eyeing a compelling quartet of actors for its second installment, this time focused on a pair of feuding couples.

According to Deadline, series creator Lee Sung Jin hopes to bring in rising star Charles Melton (fresh off the awards circuit for May December), Priscilla’s Cailee Spaeny, and A-listers Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway.

After cleaning up during awards season in the limited series category, Beef — which we named one of the best TV shows of 2023 — appears to be moving into anthology format, leaving behind the first outing’s focus on Steven Yeun’s Danny Cho and Ali Wong’s Amy Lau, who manage to take a road rage incident to unimaginable levels of disagreement, betrayal, blackmail, and sabotage.

If this casting comes to fruition, it would provide a reunion for Hathaway and Gyllenhaal, who previously acted together in 2010’s Love & Other Drugs and 2005’s Brokeback Mountain.

In its initial report, Deadline shared, “This is early, and no deals are in place,” but revealed that Netflix and A24 hope to get into production soon and begin filming in the coming months.

Beef’s first season took home eight Emmy Awards, three Golden Globes, and, most recently, two more trophies at this weekend’s Film Independent Spirit Awards.
