Lionsgate has shared first-look images and the trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of Borderlands.
First announced several years ago, the adaptation of the beloved video game series is set to hit theaters on August 9th, and was named by Consequence as one of the most anticipated films of 2024. Directed by Eli Roth, it features a cast including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Edgar Ramírez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and more.
Plot-wise, the film follows Lilith (Blanchett), a mysterious bounty hunter who returns to her home planet, Pandora, to find the daughter of Atlas (Ramírez), the “universe’s most powerful S.O.B.” Ultimately, Lilith teams up with a ragtag team — including Hart as a “seasoned mercenary on a mission” and Black as Claptrap, “a wiseass robot” — and the group fights aliens, bandits, and more with the fate of the universe in their hands.

Roth was first named director of Borderlands in 2020. Last year, Roth shared the faux-trailer-turned-full-length-movie, Thanksgiving, a pilgrim-themed horror flick.
The original Borderlands video game series was created by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. The first game arrived in 2009, and has since spawned numerous follow-ups, spinoffs, comics, novels, and even a tabletop board game. The upcoming film will be the first on-screen adaptation.
