The musical television series Schmigadoon! will not progress passed its second season, as confirmed by TVLine.

The final episode was released on May 3, but at the time it was unknown that it would be the last episode.

On Thursday, co-creator Cinco Paul made a post on Instagram that revealed that the third season of the show was already written.

The post said: “I am sad to share that Apple will not be moving forward with Season 3 of Schmigadoon!

“The season is written (including 25 new songs) but we unfortunately won’t be making it. Such is life.”

Cinco continued: “I want to thank everyone involved with the show, our incredible cast and crew and writers, our wonderful supporters at Broadway Video, Universal, and Apple, for everything they did to make it happen.

“It’s a miracle we even got two seasons, honestly, and I’m so grateful we did.”

He then spoke to the fans: “And to all the fans of the show out there, thank you with all of my heart.

“Your love and support have meant so much, and the fact that you connected with our show, that it brought you some joy, means the world to me.

“This was tough news to get, but the optimist in me is convinced it’s not the end of Schmigadoon… and maybe it’s even a happy beginning.”

The cast of the show included Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Dove Cameron, Kristin Chenoweth, and Alan Cumming.

‘NO RIGHT’

Fans of the series on X, formerly known as Twitter, were outraged by Apple TV+’s decision.

One wrote: “They had no right to cancel Schmigadoon.”

“Pretty bummed that SCHMIGADOON got canceled, though at times it did feel like I was literally the only member of the target audience lol,” commented another.

A third said: “Things I’m angry about: Schmigadoon’s cancellation. Things I’m happy about: the response on my timeline to Schmigadoon’s cancellation.”

A fan said: “Apple TV just canceled Schmigadoon after two seasons. the season and new songs were already written!! it has great rotten tomatoes scores!”

“Apple+ canceling Schmigadoon – such a dumb move,” wrote a fifth.

One fan begged: “Hey @hulu @peacock @netflix @PrimeVideo – one of you need to save Schmigadoon!”

ANOTHER AX

Other Apple TV+ fans vowed to boycott the streamer after the decision to axe a popular basketball drama.

Swagger, a series inspired by the life of NBA star Kevin Durant, only ran for two seasons after debuting in 2021.

It follows a young basketball player named Jace Carson, portrayed by Isaiah Hill, and his rise to the top as an up-and-coming player.

Showrunner and series creator Reggie Rock Bythewood took to his personal Instagram to break the news.

He wrote: “What an amazing adventure. In our two seasons, we have launched careers, disrupted genre, brought forth humanity through our characters, told stories we care deeply about, revolutionized the way to shoot basketball, and had fun.

“Apple, while you are not ordering a season three, I made the show I wanted to make. Thank you for that.”

He also thanked the cast, writers, and crew for their time on the series and addressed the show’s loyal fans.

“For our FAMbase, you lifted us in ways you could have never imagined,” he wrote.

“To the industry, don’t take your foot off the gas. Keep telling our stories,” Reggie concluded.
