Now bookies are suggesting that Rihanna, 36, could close the Pyramid Stage and she now leads the market at 7/2 to close the festival.

Previous favourite Bruce Springsteen is still among the frontrunners at 5/1, with Eminem (11/2) and Cher (8/1) rounding off the top four.

Dua Lipa and Coldplay are thought to be locked in to headline the Friday and Saturday nights at Worthy Farm.

Neil Roarty, spokesperson for betideas.com, said: “There seems to have been another dramatic twist in our long search for a Glastonbury Sunday night headliner, with Rihanna the latest name on everyone’s lips.

“Stevie Wonder was the previous favourite in the betting but has drifted out to 14/1 after talks reportedly broke down with festival organisers, with Rihanna now the 7/2 favourite.

“Other notable selections in the market include Bruce Springsteen at 5/1, with Eminem (11/2) and Cher (8/1) also now contenders.”

Festival organiser Emily Eavis had spent weeks try to woo Stevie, 73, to play at the farm this June – and t he Isn’t She Lovely singer was even added to a draft of the official line-up poster.

However The Sun understands negotiations hit the rocks after Stevie’s team struggled to make his schedule work alongside a yet-to-be-announced string of summer shows.

Madonna was close to signing last October but was said to have been heavy-handed with her demands, causing talks to fail.

Chiefs then made a beeline for Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks but she was poached for the BST festival in London’s Hyde Park.
