NELLY and Ashanti have dropped a huge announcement – they’re getting married and expecting a baby.
After calling it quits almost a decade ago, Nelly and Ashanti have now rekindled their romance.
How many times have Ashanti and Nelly broken up?
Ashanti and Nelly began dating in 2003 after meeting at a Grammy Awards press conference.
They dated during the heights of both of their careers in the early noughties.
In 2009, it was rumored that the pair broke up but the two reportedly attended rapper TI‘s wedding together in 2010.
After 10 years together, Ashanti and Nelly split again in 2013.
They both remained quiet about the reasons for the split until 2015, when Ashanti shared with Meredith Vieira: “I think sometimes when people have their own insecurities, it allows them to act out of character.
“I’ve been betrayed. Again, you just have to grow, you have to grow up and accept responsibility for the things that you do.
“I’m not a big fan of people being cowards. I’m in a different place right now.

Ashanti and Nelly had fans talking about whether the two rekindled their supposed relationship since February 2023.
Instagram followers originally noticed a tiny similarity between their posts on the app.
Eagle-eyed users saw that Ashanti wore the same Cuban link chain necklace that Just A Dream singer Nelly wore to the 65th Grammy Awards ceremony just weeks earlier.
The necklace clue follows the former couple’s joint concert performance in Glendale, Arizona, where the two danced suggestively on one another while singing their joint hit Body On Me.
On April 22, 2023, the former couple was seen together at the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia boxing match in Las Vegas.
After the match, the two appeared to be holding hands and heading in the same direction.
On September 12, 2023, Nelly finally confirmed their relationship in an interview with Rasheeda Frost’s Boss Moves with Rasheeda series.
Nelly said, “Yeah. We cool again.” He went on to say their rekindling “surprised” them both.
“I think it surprised both of us, though. It wasn’t anything that was, like, planned. I think we both was pretty much doing what we do.
“But sometimes being separate, you understand one another more.”
He also mentioned the two were very career-driven during the first time in their relationship which was “tough” for the couple.

When did they become engaged?
During an interview with Essence, Ashanti Nelly referred to as her “fiancé.”
She said, “Sharing this with my family, fiancé and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”
She did not reveal when the engagement occurred but the Foolish singer gave many glimpses into a new chapter for the couple.
How many kids do they have together?
On April 17, 2024, it was revealed that Nelly and Ashanti were expecting a child together.
This is Ashanti’s first child. Nelly shares four children with his ex, Channetta Valentine.
“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,” she told the outlet. “Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to.”
Us Weekly first reported on December 4, 2023, that the pair are expecting a baby together but they did not confirm until April.
