YNW Melly will be tried again for first-degree murder in connection to the 2018 shootings of Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams, the Broward County State Attorney’s Office confirmed to Pitchfork. Pitchfork has contacted representatives for YNW Melly for comment.

After more than a month of sometimes animated court proceedings, the jury could not come to a unanimous decision in the case; Broward Circuit Court Judge John J. Murphy III declared a mistrial on July 22, following three days of deliberation. He thanked the jury for their efforts, saying, “These types of decisions, they’re hard decisions.”

YNW Melly’s case went to trial nearly four-and-a-half years after his arrest. If convicted, he could face the death penalty. Another YNW associate, Cortlen “YNW Bortlen” Henry, is still awaiting trial in connection with the incident.
