After a reflective Monday holiday, we’re back with another Weekly News Roundup. The biggest stories this week all keep an eye on the future — whether that’s the Super Bowl, Coachella, or a revival of your favorite Kyle MacLachlan movie.
For starters, Green Day has returned today with their 14th studio album, Saviors. Not only did they celebrate the album’s launch with a Subway performance alongside Jimmy Fallon and an intimate underplay at New York City’s Irving Plaza this week, they also shared a major announcement: For their upcoming “Saviors Tour,” the band will play their celebrated albums Dookie and American Idiot in full. Meanwhile, Coachella finally released their 2024 lineup, and the biggest surprises came from the inclusion of two California favorites: No Doubt and Sublime. No Doubt will be performing their first live show in nine years, while Sublime — now sans Rome — will be playing a set fronted by original vocalist Bradley Nowell’s son, Jakob. To make things even more California, LA residents Tyler, the Creator, Lana Del Rey, and Doja Cat will also headline.
While the Coachella lineup was met with mixed reviews this week, one of the more unfortunate stories came from Condé Nast’s decision to move Pitchfork under the GQ banner. While we don’t exactly know what the media changeup holds, we know it’s a bad sign for music media at large.
