The Notebook Musical Coming to Broadway

The Notebook musical is heading to Broadway early next year. Preview performances will kick off on February 6th, 2024 at New York’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre ahead of the opening night on March 14th.

The adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ 1996 romance novel The Notebook previously ran at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater in the fall of 2022. It features music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson, with a book by This is Us supervising producer Bekah Brunstetter and choreography by Katie Spelman.  Michael Greif and Schele Williams will split directing duties.

Early access to pre-sale tickets will be available to American Express cardholders beginning Tuesday, September 12th through Tuesday, September 19th and Audience Rewards members from Tuesday, September 19th through Friday, September 22nd at Telecharge.com ahead of the general on-sale taking place on Tuesday, September 26th.

Following the love story of World War II veteran Noah Calhoun and socialite Allie Hamilton, The Notebook is of course best known for the 2004 film adaptation co-starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.

“When I first heard about The Notebook potentially being turned into a musical, I was instantly drawn to the idea,” Michaelson said back in 2019. “The story hits home for me in two big ways: it takes place in my home state of North Carolina, and Alzheimer’s runs deep in my family. I was sent a few songs Ingrid had already written for it, and that week, I spent my drives to and from work car-listening, memorizing, imagining the story unfold with music, imagining how I might layer worlds, dramatize memory, and before I even knew that I had to write the book for this, it was already starting to happen in my head.”

Michaelson’s last studio album was 2019’s Stranger Songs, which was inspired by Stranger Things. She spoke about it in an episode of Kyle Meredith With…, which you can hear below.
