Let’s get one thing straight — ska needs more supergroups. Aside from Rude Girl Revue and Kilograms, they’re surprisingly hard to come by. Luckily, Mutiny is here to remedy that! The seven-piece band is made up of members of Death by Stereo, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Dissidente, Manic Hispanic, and Adolescents, and their songs feature guests from even more bands.
The group released their debut, self-titled EP on SPI Records in February, despite having yet to all be in the same room at the same time. But we got three of the members together on In Defense of Ska to talk about the project and its connection with all the other related bands.
In addition to filling listeners in on all there is to know about Mutiny and their upcoming plans for the Supernova International Ska Festival, Schulz, Ruckus, and Cambra explore various aspects of their other projects’ current states. Schulz offers a correction of his bandmate and former guest Ian Fowles on the history of Death by Stereo and teases Manic Hispanic’s new ska songs (parodies of The Specials’ “A Message to You Rudy” and Rancid’s “Time Bomb”).
