Fans have some thoughts on Lil Uzi Vert’s new look.
The Philadelphia rapper caused a bit of a stir Saturday after he posted pictures from the Roc Nation pre-Grammys brunch in Los Angeles. Uzi showed off their head-turning ‘fit, which consisted of a light pink double-breasted suit and cream ruffled shirt paired with white pointed shoes and a Richard Mille pocket watch.
However, it wasn’t Uzi’s fashion that generated the most buzz; it was their hair.
The 27-year-old rapper sported a slicked-back look with severe sideburns and soft flipped ends. A fan page highlighted the ‘do in a series of Instagram posts while another fan pointed out on Twitter: “Slick my hair back like I’m Chico DeBarge”—a standout line from their 2017 track “Neon Guts” with Pharrell.
Uzi has become known for their eclectic fashion sense and unparalleled style that often deviates from gender norms. As far as clothing goes, Uzi has rocked everything from an off-the-shoulder women’s top and bright red leather harnesses to an all-black Thom Brown skirt and dog collars. Their hairstyles have also been quite eclectic, as he’s sported mohawks, spiked hair, and almost every unnatural color imaginable.
He spoked about their style in a 2018 interview with GQ, saying he didn’t properly develop it until after he hit it big.
“I always had a vision for my style,” he told the outlet. “But before, I didn’t really get it. Even when I got money, my style wasn’t all the way there yet. But with traveling the world and seeing different stuff, I get it now.”
Although Uzi is clearly confident in their style choices, their slicked-back hair drew mixed reactions on social media. Some compared the look to a vampire while others said it gave off Kat Williams vibes. You can check out some of the posts below.
