Aston Villa Football Club and Adidas have unveiled new jerseys and cleats in collaboration with Black Sabbath and its frontman Ozzy Osbourne.
Ozzy and fellow Black Sabbath member Geezer Butler are huge fans of their hometown Birmingham club, as seen in the announcement video for Aston Villa’s partnership with Sabbath that dropped back in July.
Now the club has released its first merchandise in collaboration with the band, highlighted by a new jersey emblazoned with the Black Sabbath logo on the rear tail below the number.
Aston Villa will don the Sabbath uni on Wednesday (October 30th) for its Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace. Fans will be able to pick up the limited-edition shirt via the Aston Villa Store, with 200 home kit shirts and 50 black goalkeeper variants available for £120 ($156), limited to one per customer.
“My absolute favourite colours in the world have always been purple and black,” commented Ozzy on the new collab with Aston Villa [via the club’s press release]. “It’s been Black Sabbath colours for over 50 years. Tony, Geezer, Bill, and I look at this as a huge honour. UP THE VILLA!!”
Alongside the jerseys, Aston Villa and Adidas also showed off new Predator 24 football cleats featuring a hand-painted design by artist Jordan Dawson that pays homage to Ozzy and Sabbath. Unfortunately, the striking footwear won’t be available for purchase, but Villa goalkeeper Emi Martínez will wear the custom cleats in an upcoming match.
“Hand-painting this design on to one of Adidas’ most iconic boots allowed me to merge fine artistry, sport and the spirit of heavy metal music, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind custom piece,” remarked Dawson. “This collaboration brings together creativity and craftsmanship, offering a unique expression that stands out in both the world of sports and art.”
