“The Nanny” actress Fran Drescher has been leading the SAG-AFTRA strike while serving in the role of SAG-AFTRA President.
She is known for her starring and producing roles in the ’90s sitcom “The Nanny” and for being founder of the educational and advocacy organization Cancer Schmancer.
Most recently, Drescher has been making headlines in her latest role: President of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists Union (SAG-AFTRA).
The SAG-AFTRA actors went on strike on July 14 after the union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failed to reach an agreement on many issues, which included the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and residual pay.
As CBS News reported, Drescher gave a “fiery speech” about the SAG-AFTRA strike that was heard, and well-received, all around the globe.
“We are being victimized by a very greedy entity,” Drescher said in her speech. “I am shocked by the way the people that we have been in business with are treating us. I cannot believe it, quite frankly: how far apart we are on so many things,” she acknowledged.
“How they plead poverty, that they’re losing money left and right, when giving hundreds of millions of dollars to their CEOs. It is disgusting. Shame on them. They stand on the wrong side of history at this very moment,” she expressed.
Fran Fine: ‘The Nanny’
Drescher is best known for her Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated role Miss Fran Fine in “The Nanny,” an upbeat and smart fashionista from Queens who serves as a nanny to Mr. Maxwell Sheffield (played by Charles Shaughnessy), her rich widowed employer, and she helps raise his three kids.

Drescher is more than an actress and executive producer; she is also a cancer survivor. She has documented her battle against cancer in her memoir “Cancer Schmancer.” She advocates for prevention and early detection through Cancer Schmancer, her nonprofit organization.

The mission of Cancer Schmancer is to educate, motivate, and activate you to take control of your body — to be able to identify and eliminate toxins, to eat a healthy diet, to reduce stress, and to get moving.
Most recently, on July 29, she hosted her 2023 Master Class Health Summit on Long Island.
Drescher hails from Flushing, Queens, and she attended Queens College. In the summer of 2017, Drescher was recognized with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the Queens College annual GALA.
