Arnold Schwarzenegger joined Travis and Jason Kelce for the latest episode of the New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce (Presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment) podcast to discuss his 90s action movie rivalry with Sylvester Stallone, if Arnold was ever approached about playing football, and Jason asked the former California governor about safely losing weight.

If there is a Mt. Rushmore of guys who can get anyone in shape it’s Arnold, Arnold, Arnold, and Arnold. He is the Mt. Rushmore of resculpting and maintenance throughout the later years in life. So when Jason Kelce saw his opportunity to ask Arnold Schwarzenegger how he can go from a playing weight at 295 pounds down to 250-260 pounds, he asked Arnold for advice.

Jason says he’s seeking to lose two pounds a day but is attacking it with a very calculated plan. Saying he wants to lose the 2 pounds a week but maintain his muscle mass. Kelce says he’s monitoring his protein, carbs, fats, and says he’s “making sure (he’s) hitting at least 1 pound per bodyweight” and he goes to ask Arnold “is this the model?”

The video picks up around this discussion here:

Arnold chimes in with “the most important thing is you slowly decrease the body fat and increase the body muscles.” He adds “so you just switch. It doesn’t just have to do with the weight. Of course you want to reduce weight because it’s much healthier and (you’re) much more agile and faster and you can do more. But you want to slowly decrease the fat and increase the muscle mass.”

Then he dives into it, saying “with the exercising and with the machines and the weights and all of that stuff, you should be able to do that very easily.” Saying that because both of the Kelce brothers have lifted a lot of weights they “don’t have to lift heavy” because once people start aging they with “wear and tear of the joints.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger says he’d rather see Jason Kelce doing reps of 12-to-15 instead of going after the heaviest weights. Saying to do it “as strict as possible and many many reps and sets and to do it the right way to gain the muscles rather than to just torture yourself and have injuries.” The latter part he’s referring to going after max weights.

This all resonates me as I’ve been on resculpting kick this year. I’m down 15 pounds from January 1 so nothing close to Jason Kelce’s 2 pounds/week goal but 1 pound/week while lifting 4-5 days a week and gaining muscle has been great. I highly recommend joining me on this adventure, just wake up before the rest of the world gets moving.
