When CNN news anchor Christi Paul took an extended leave of absence in early 2022, her fans did not know it would end in her resignation from her hit morning show “New Day Weekend.” However, that’s exactly what happened. The 50-something reporter, host, wife, and mother is moving home. She’s headed back to her roots and making big changes. What caused her to make these changes? Will she be back, or is she off the air forever? Here is what we know about Christi Paul and her new life.
1. No One Knows Her Age
Something that can be said for Christi Paul is that she’s excellent at keeping the private details of her life to herself. She’s not into sharing anything she doesn’t feel is necessary for the world to know, and we love that about her. We only know that she was born in 1969. She is in her early 50s, but she won’t say when she was born.
2. Christi Paul is from The Midwest
Christi Paul is a born and raised Midwesterner. She was born in a place called Bellevue, Ohio. She does not speak much about her childhood, but we know she’s from the area. She attended the University of Toledo, and it shouldn’t shock anyone that she earned her degree in Broadcast Journalism.
3. She is a CNN Fixture
Though she’s worked many places, it’s CNN she’s been with so long. People know her well from her time with the network despite its falling ratings and increased criticism from viewers and non-viewers. She first began her career with CNN back in 2003. She made the shocking announcement in 2022 that she’s leaving the network after almost two decades with the company.
4. She Was Married to an Abusive Man
Christi Paul is an author. She published a book in 2012 titled “Love Isn’t Supposed to Hurt,” which is a memoir. In the book, she chronicles her marriage to her first husband. In her book, she discusses the abuse she faced at the hands of her first husband. Shockingly, the abuse was evident as early as their honeymoon. When he began drinking more and more, the abuse was worse. However, she chooses to forgive him and also hopes that he is able to find peace in his life that comes without the pain he feels.
5. She’s a Married Mother of Three
She’s very private about the details of her marriage and her children. What we know is that her second husband is Peter Wurm. We know they have three girls together, but we know very little else. She doesn’t share their wedding date, or the year they were wed. She doesn’t share much of anything, to be honest. She values her privacy and that of her family entirely too much.
6. She’s a Former Beauty Queen
She’s lovely, but did you know she was Miss Greater Cleveland in the early 90s? She went on to compete for the Miss Ohio title in 1993. However, she did not win. She was the third runner-up. Though we don’t know why she did choose to contest for the winner to succeed her crown that year. Little did she know the winner that year was Robin Meade. As you know, Robin Meade also works for CNN. They were co-workers.
8. She’s a Talented Singer
You are not asked to sing the National Anthem anywhere if you are not a talented singer, so we assume she’s talented. Christi Paul was asked to sing the National Anthem at not one but at three professional sports team games. This includes a game between the Atlanta Braves and the Florida Marlins in 2007. The other two games were both for the National Hockey League.
9. Christi Paul is Tired
When she announced her departure from CNN, she did so with tears. She simply said she was tired of being tired. The early morning schedule has been demanding for her for years, and she’s tired. You see, she’s a mother and a wife, too. She’s not just the woman who wakes up in the middle of the night to go to work to host the morning news. She can’t just go home and sleep when she wants or go to bed early. She’s missing valuable family time when she does that, and she’s tired.
10. She Misses her Family
The other reason she’s leaving her long-time position with CNN is her family. She misses them. She misses spending time with them and being with them. She misses being home. However, she will return to work in Ohio with a local news station. The family is moving back to where they are from, and she could not be happier.
