Without a doubt, the mediums of film and music are closely intertwined. From iconic needle drops to visual albums, movie-musicals to the countless number of songs inspired by classic flicks, the two forms of artistic expression are constantly in conversation — and on August 31st, there’ll once again be a blockbuster crossover.
That’s the day of Velocity festival, a special event featuring the likes of Nickelback and Brantley Gilbert (among several others) taking place at the magical site where the all-time great baseball picture Field of Dreams was filmed. Never made it as a wise man/ Couldn’t cut it as base runner stealin’…
“I couldn’t be more excited, man. I loved that movie coming up. I love everything about it, and we love the Nickelback guys,” Gilbert tells Consequence. “Brother, you need to kill somebody if you need to to get there.”
To preview the unique event, we connected with Gilbert, a country-rock hitmaker responsible for chart-topping tunes like “Bottoms Up” and platinum-selling albums like Halfway to Heaven. Calling in from the middle of his Georgia farm, he leans into the intersection of music and motion pictures, running through 10 songs that he thinks should be turned into a movie.
