MrBeast reveals he still wants a League of Legends team and would even sign Faker

The world’s most famous content creator, MrBeast, still has plans to purchase a professional League of Legends team as part of the League Championship Series (LCS) in the United States.

Speaking on Dexerto’s new Clickbaited show, he even outlined his dream of winning Worlds.

League of Legends remains a juggernaut in esports, as one of the most-watched games. Although the LCS has been around for over a decade, the tournament is still fierce and viewership remains strong despite a downward trend lately.

The game itself attracts tens of millions of players a month, and what better way to convert them into esports fans than to get one of the biggest influencers involved? That’s what MrBeast has long been planning, expressing his interest in joining the LCS as early as 2022.

We asked Donaldson about his intentions and if it’s still in the cards. Not only is MrBeast still eager to enter the LCS, but he even has ambitions of winning Worlds.

“I love League of Legends,” MrBeast reaffirmed in the first episode of our new Clickbaited interview series. When he was a teenager, beyond aspiring to be a content creator, he also dreamed of turning pro in LoL.

“I used to look up to Faker and all the top pro players,” he told us. “I would watch the f*** out of League every year, it was one of the few things I related to other people with. Some of my friends in middle school played League and we’d talk about it at lunch.”

His passion for the game still burns to this day, although he doesn’t quite have the time to commit to the ranked grind like he once did, admitting Platinum was his best accomplishment at his peak. Despite that, he remains incredibly high on the game’s esports scene, wanting to join in when the time is right.

“I want to own an LCS team, it’s just…I’ve got a lot going on at the moment [but] I’m going to buy one,” MrBeast confirmed.

MrBeast has long been a League fan, playing for over 13 years.

While we’ve seen content creators start teams before, such as Nadeshot with 100 Thieves organization or Disguised Toast with Disguised, MrBeast wants to join with an immediate splash, bigger than anything we’ve seen before.

“It’d be awesome if I made ‘f*** you money’ to buy an LCS team, pour tons of money into the salaries, import the best players, try to make a run for Worlds. That would be amazing.”

Unlike others in the space trying to turn a profit, however, MrBeast has no expectations in that regard. Instead, it’d purely be a fun side project for his personal interest.

“It would not make money at all,” he continued, “Especially if I want to win Worlds. It would purely be like… You know how rich people buy an NBA team? I don’t have that kind of money, but this would be a poor man’s version of that. Buying an LCS team, stacking it, and trying to win Worlds.”

Regarding the limits of his budget, MrBeast didn’t shy away from the notion of paying the biggest possible star in the scene. “Faker on the MrBeast team?” – “If he’s buyable,” he replied without hesitation.

“I’m not doing it for the love of esports, I’m doing it for the love of League of Legends. I f**king love League of Legends.”

MrBeast gave a time frame where he’d like to buy a team as well: 2027. Although, he’s only interested if the current LTA system can hold up. For those unfamiliar, the LCS is no more, and Riot have completely restructured the way North American League of Legends works.

Viewership has been trending down, and the YouTube tycoon is only interested if the League is able to stay alive.

“We just have to keep the esports scene popping. I don’t wanna see a decline in viewership, I don’t wanna finally get a team and we win Worlds, and everyone’s like, ‘No one cares, League’s dead.’ Keep this s**t going. One day, I’ll step in.”
