Curtis is open about her past struggles with addiction, and how she got sober. “I’m breaking the cycle that has basically destroyed the lives of generations in my family,” she told People. “Getting sober remains my single greatest accomplishment … bigger than my husband, bigger than both of my children, and bigger than any work, success, failure. Anything.”

Curtis doesn’t believe in plastic surgery, and she has a good reason. “I tried plastic surgery and it didn’t work,” she told Fast Company.  “It got me addicted to Vicodin. I’m 22 years sober now. The current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty. Once you mess with your face, you can’t get it back.”

Curtis opened up about her favorite skincare products to Today. She says that she opts for cheaper products, as she thinks they are more effective. “I spent $800 on a big jar of a cream. It didn’t do anything! It doesn’t do anything! The truth of the matter is, it doesn’t do anything for you. It’s a scam to make money.”

When it comes to aging, Curtis isn’t worried about it. In an interview with Prevention, she encouraged others to have the same mindset. “This word ‘anti-aging’ has to be struck. I am pro-aging. I want to age with intelligence and grace and dignity and verve and energy.”

In her role in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, Curtis decided to take a different approach. She opened up about her process, and how it helped her in this Instagram post. “In the world, there is an industry — a billion-dollar, trillion-dollar industry — about hiding things,” she wrote. “Concealers. Body-shapers. Fillers. Procedures. Clothing. Hair accessories. Hair products. Everything to conceal the reality of who we are. And my instruction to everybody was: I want there to be no concealing of anything. I’ve been sucking my stomach in since I was 11, when you start being conscious of boys and bodies, and the jeans are super tight. I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal. I have never felt more free creatively and physically.”
