Erick the Architect Taps George Clinton for New Single

Flatbush Zombies member Erick the Architect has teamed up with funk legend George Clinton for a new single titled “Ezekiel’s Wheel.”

Arriving ahead of Erick’s forthcoming debut solo album, I’ve Never Been Here Before, “Ezekiel’s Wheel” demonstrates his style, combining soul, funk, and hip-hop influences with free-flowing verses inspired by his upbringing attending church with his family in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Between Erick’s stanzas, Clinton interjects with anchoring lines like: “And there it is/ so goes the story/ Do the best you can/ and then funk it.”

The single features a beat produced by Matt Zara and arrives today along with a visualizer consisting of shots of Erick and Clinton. Watch it below.

So far, Erick has shared three other singles from I’ve Never Been Here Before. In July 2023, he dropped the lead single “Parkour,” which featured production by James Blake. In October, he shared “Ambrosia” featuring Channel Tres, and the following month, he released “Shook Up,” featuring Joey Bada$$ and FARR.

Other tracks from I’ve Never Been Here Before will feature Westside Boogie, Kimbra, Lalah Hathaway, RÜDE CÅT, Boy Boy, and Pale Jay, with production by Blake, Linden Jay, T Minus, and more. The full album is due on February 23rd, with pre-orders ongoing.

Last year, Erick’s Flatbush Zombies bandmate, Zombie Juice, shared a debut solo LP of his own: April’s Love Without Conditions. Last November and December, to mark the 10th anniversary of BetterOffDEAD, the hip-hop group embarked on a run of shows celebrating the mixtape.

As for Clinton, Parliament-Funkadelic wrapped their 2023 tour last month. On December 17th, Amp Fiddler, the band’s longtime keyboardist (and mentor to J Dilla), died at 65 years old.
