David Lee Roth Drops New Song "Scotch and Sofa": Stream

David Lee Roth has released the new song “Scotch and Sofa.” The track is the latest in a series of one-off singles from the Van Halen singer, and it might be the most eccentric of the bunch.

Laced with prominent horns, DLR dabbles in a bit of salsa/disco on the song. There’s also a bit of the lounge-y cabaret vibes Diamond Dave has always had an affinity for. An Easter Egg for Van Halen fans comes in the form of his chorus delivery of “scotch and sofa” — which shares the same cadence as “hot for teacher.”

Roth shared the song on his YouTube channel under the title “Scotch and Sofa 4” but offered little else regarding its origin. Like his other recent post-“retirement” singles, the track might have came from recording sessions nearly a decade ago at Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood, California.

The recording sessions featured John 5 on guitar and bass, Greg Bissonette on drums, Brett Tuggle on keyboards, and Luis Conte on percussion. In 2022, John 5 mentioned that the unreleased Roth recordings share a singer-songwriter sound, though that is more descriptive of songs like “Lo-Rez Sunset” and “Pointing at the Moon” that we’ve already heard.

In other news, Roth continues to stir the pot in the Van Halen camp, starting beef with Wolfgang Van Halen after unleashing a pointed rant against the son of his late bandmate. Wolfgang has since responded.
