Colombian singer-songwriter Andrés Cuervo has died suddenly. He was age 40.

The news was confirmed by his publicity agency, JAQUE. A spokesperson for the agency has confirmed the artist and model died of a heart attack on October 5 at his apartment in Paris, where he lived. Cuervo was at New York Fashion Week just a few weeks ago, where he walked the runway for a fashion designer.

Andrés Cuervo was born and raised in Barranquilla and began performing in school. He drew strong influences from pop and rock n’ roll in his songwriting. Cuervo released his first studio album, Tras de Ti, in 2008, which spawned a #1 hit in Mexico.

His second album, Este Soy Yo, was released in 2013, with numerous songs reaching the top ten on Mexican and Spanish radio. In February 2015, Cuervo released Historias de Amor on Valentine’s Day.

His single “La Receta” hit the #1 spot on the Billboard Tropical charts. An English version called “The Cure” was released simultaneously. In March 2018, Cuervo released the single “Vivirla Bien,” which reached #18 on the Billboard Tropical chart. The YouTube video for that song has over 11 million views, making it the most popular video of the artist’s career.

Cuervo’s videos have gained more than 40 million views on YouTube thanks to singles like “Te Extraño,” “Destino Casualidad,” “Luna Cuentale,” and “Te Quiero Para Mi.”

“Andrés Cuervo Becerra left us very early,” shares former manager Kiko Becerra on her social media. “The Greeks said that the blessing of the gods was to die young, because only the golden age of human existence was lived: youth.”

Cuervo announced earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which he says contributed to his art in his ‘dark moments.’ “This project is precisely to celebrate having passed the moment of absolute darkness,” Cuervo said in a presentation of his single “Paranoia.”
