Behemoth have shared the video for “Off to War!,” the latest single from their forthcoming album Opvs Contra Natvram arriving September 16th.
It’s a kinetic track from the Polish black metal luminaries and one that sees them upping the tempo. Punkish riffs align with impressive lead work and chunky breakdowns, as the band showcases its extreme-metal versatility.
Like previous single “Ov My Herculean Exile,” Behemoth also offer up another atmospheric music video to accompany the new single. The clip, directed by Påhl Sundström and Erik Sundström, checks off many of the obligatory black metal boxes: Christ impaled, smoky nightscapes, snow mountains, etc.
“Militant times bring militant music… we’re increasing the tempo with our new single, ‘Off To War!’ — one of my personal favorites from the new record,” remarked frontman Nergal in a press release. “This song has a killer punk section, one of the greatest Behemoth leads of all time, and a nice extreme metal twist at the end. A true sonic tornado in times of confrontation — enjoy it, legions!!”
As previously reported, Opvs Contra Natvram was produced by Behemoth with mixing by studio vet Joe Barresi (Nine Inch Nails, Tool).
“The album title means going against the current,” Nergal said upon the LP’s announcement back in May. “It’s the negative of the values and morals and ethics that I stand against. I’ve seriously been wrestling with destructive tendencies in pop culture — cancel culture, social media, and tools which I feel are very dangerous weapons in the hands of people who are not competent to judge others.”
