Zendaya Wins Best Actress Emmy for HBO’s ‘Euphoria’

After making history with her victory in 2020, Euphoria star Zendaya has once again walked away from the Primetime Emmy Awards as a winner.

For her role as Rue Bennett in the HBO drama series Euphoria, Zendaya won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

She beat out a number of high profile names in the category for best actress, including Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh for the final season of Killing Eve, and Resse Witherspoon in The Morning Show. Last year’s winner was Olivia Colman, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown

Euphoria was also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, and got nominations for Outstanding Music and Lyrics at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which transpired over the weekend.

Zendaya set a record as the youngest recipient of this particular Emmy during the 2020 edition of the ceremony. The socially distanced awards show meant Zendaya was surrounded by her family as she received the award. “I know this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating but I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there,” she said at the time. “I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that but there is hope in the young people. And I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets—I see you, I admire you, I thank you.”
