YouTuber Lukefoods decided to check out a struggling local restaurant in Kentucky after one of their employees reached out to him, and he gave it a glowing review. That review, according to the owner, saved his business.
Lukefoods first went viral after filming himself eating Indian food for the first time, with him consistently releasing content in the years since and turning food reviews into a career.
And, while he’s traveled around the nation tasting food from all over the place, he tries to support local businesses in his home state of Kentucky when he can.
The Dog Pound isn’t the first restaurant that he’s given a boost in business to, but it’s the one he may have impacted the most. According to the owner, his business has doubled since Luke reviewed it, with some of his viewers driving in from literal hours away just to give the place a try.
YouTuber saves struggling restaurant as viewers flock to try it
All of this came from an interaction he had with a fan. A woman he met named Natasha recommended he stop by to try the food, saying that business was slow and that they could really use some more publicity.
In his initial review, the YouTuber paid for his own food despite Natasha offering to feed him for free, and he loved their barbeque so much that he came back just to get it again.
When Luke returned to the The Dog Pound around two weeks after his initial review, he was given a warm welcome by Jack, the restaurant’s owner. He claimed that the YouTuber may have genuinely saved his business.
Jack said that some of Luke’s viewers drove in from out of state, as far as three and a half hours away, driving across state lines to eat there and to tell the owner that Luke sent them.
“We had 5 families that first day, then each day its grown since,” the owner said. “You’ve doubled my business right away. It’s just like… Coming out of the winter, I just almost didn’t make it. You keep hanging on. But you really sparked growth. I don’t think you realize what you do for people. It’s life-changing.”
Luke did the same thing in May, visiting a place called Flavor Isle and they became so busy that they started selling out of food. The restaurant couldn’t even keep up with demand due to the sheer amount of his viewers that showed up.
