Yonder Mountain String Band have shared “The Truth Fits,” the newest single from the jamgrass ensemble’s forthcoming studio album Nowhere Next. Set to release Nov. 8 via Thirty Tigers, Nowhere Next is the band’s 11th studio album and arrives over 25 years after the Grammy-nominated group’s founding. The latest offering follows the lead single “Here I Go,” which was released earlier last month.
“‘The Truth Fits’ is an expression of the empowerment that comes from building the life that you desire rather than the one you have been conditioned to live,” said founding member Nick Piccininni, who wrote 10 of the 11 songs. “Cause I tried so hard to be happy / livin’ how they said I should,” they sing in the song’s chorus, “But a stranger’s boots grow heavy / and the truth fits too damn good.” These lyrics, paired with Yonder’s signature intricate string work, make “The Truth Fits” a testament to the band’s continued vitality.
Yonder Mountain String Band’s two preview singles demonstrate that the outfit’s improvisatory chemistry is at a new peak on their forthcoming project. Across the collection, the band’s core members recombine their talents in new forms: for Nowhere Next, Piccininni also contributed mandolin, banjo, and fiddle expertise, collaborating on vocals with guitarist Adam Aijala, banjoist Dave Johnston and bassist Ben Kaufmann. The album also includes eight spots from fiddler Coleman Smith, as well as features legendary Dobro guitarist Jerry Douglas on “Here I Go,” “Wasting Time” and “Didn’t Go Wrong.”
Today’s release arrives between a string of fall performances, with upcoming stagings set for later this month at Pelham, Tenn.’s CaveFest on Oct. 11 and Concord, N.H.’s Concord Sound & Color Festival at Capitol Center For The Arts the following weekend, Oct. 18. Yonder Mountain String Band will then play at Strings & Sol in Puerto Morelos, Mexico on Dec. 12-16 before closing out the year with a New Year’s Eve Run at Hamilton Live in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 30-31. The band will resume touring the U.S. in early 2025.
