Pro wrestling icon Hulk Hogan has died at 71 years old after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida, according to TMZ.
Emergency crews responded to a medical call early Thursday morning. Hogan was reportedly taken from the scene on a stretcher and was later pronounced dead. The report states the incident was a cardiac arrest, not linked to any prior hospitalizations.
His wife Sky, had recently denied claims he was in critical condition, calling his heart “strong” and confirming he had been recovering from a routine neck surgery in May.
Wrestling legend and global star
Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, was one of the most recognizable faces in wrestling history. He headlined the first WrestleMania, helped launch Hulkamania, and became a pop culture figure far beyond WWE.
In recent years, Hogan dealt with numerous health issues tied to his wrestling career, undergoing more than two dozen surgeries, including procedures on his neck, back, and hips.
Shortly after his death, the WWE issued a statement in a post on X.
“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” they said. “One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”
Vince McMahon pays tribute to Hogan
“The world lost a treasure today,” McMahon said in a post on X. “Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of ALL TIME, someone who was loved and admired around the world. He was a trailblazer, the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon.
“His grit and unbridled thirst for success were unparalleled – and made him the consummate performer. He gave everything he had to the audience whom he appreciated, respected and loved. He leaves us with one of his favorite expressions, “Train, take your vitamins and say your prayers.” Today, we pray for him.”
Hogan’s death comes just two days after the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, died at 76 years old, just weeks after performing his last show.
